Paris Saint-Germain and Google announced a multiyear 'Premium Partnership' running through 2029 that installs Google Gemini as the French champion's official AI assistant and Google Pixel as its official smartphone. The deal, confirmed by the club and reported by Sportcal and Inside World Football, gives Google a foothold inside one of the most commercially valuable clubs in world soccer just months after PSG completed a continental treble and enters the 2026-27 season as reigning European champion.
Under the agreement, PSG's internal content teams will use Gemini to develop what the club calls more 'creative and engaging content,' while Pixel devices become the tools used to capture and share behind-the-scenes footage from the pitch to the locker room. Google is also building a dedicated space at Parc des Princes for partners, creators and guests to experience its AI products directly, and will support several PSG departments in integrating Google technology more broadly across the club's operations, according to the official announcement on PSG's website.
'This partnership with Google perfectly reflects our ambition to collaborate with the world's most innovative companies,' said Richard Heaselgrave, PSG's chief revenue officer, framing the deal as part of the club's push to marry its 'Parisian identity' with global-scale technology brands. The language matters: PSG has spent the past several years building out a portfolio of category-exclusive tech and lifestyle sponsors as it works to close the commercial revenue gap with Real Madrid, Manchester City and other European superclubs.
This is not an isolated move by Google. Sportcal's Euan Cunningham described the deal as Google 'adding PSG to a growing soccer partnerships stable,' pointing to a pattern of the company expanding its footprint across the sport as AI assistants become a new sponsorship category in their own right, distinct from traditional shirt sponsors, stadium naming rights or kit suppliers.
The category itself is emergent and moving fast. Just this week, Mexican club CD Guadalajara announced its own AI collaboration with Olocip, now part of Plexus Sport, to embed artificial intelligence into day-to-day club operations, while U.S. college programs including Loyola Marymount and Florida International signed multiyear deals with AI storytelling company FanWord. Sponsorship inventory that a decade ago went to beer brands and airlines is increasingly being carved out for AI vendors looking to prove their products in front of enormous, engaged fan bases.
For Google specifically, PSG offers something Pixel and Gemini badly need against Apple and OpenAI: visible, recurring exposure to a global audience that skews young, mobile-first and international. PSG's roster and Qatari ownership give the club reach across Europe, the Gulf and beyond, and every Ligue 1 matchday, Champions League broadcast and locker-room content clip becomes a live demo of Google's consumer AI stack running in a context fans actually care about.
The commercial logic cuts both ways. PSG gets a premium-tier technology partner and functional tools — content generation, device hardware, in-stadium infrastructure — without disclosing a rights fee, which is typical for this category of sponsorship where value is measured partly in product integration rather than pure cash. What's harder to quantify is whether fans actually want an 'official AI assistant' at all, or whether this becomes another branding exercise that fades into stadium signage noise.
Either way, the deal is a marker of where soccer sponsorship inventory is heading next. As traditional categories like betting and crypto face regulatory pressure in multiple European markets, AI has emerged as the cleanest, best-funded replacement category — and Google, Amazon, Microsoft and others are moving quickly to lock down marquee club and league partnerships before rivals do.
Why it matters
Sponsorship dollars are migrating from jersey patches to AI branding, and clubs like PSG are becoming testbeds where tech giants prove consumer AI products to hundreds of millions of fans — a new front in soccer's commercial arms race.
